MLS&T Program - Current Students

Welcome to students enrolled in the Master of Learning Science & Technology Program. This information is designed to help you pre-enroll, organise your schedule, and design your degree pathway. If you should have any further questions, please email our course convenor, Chun Hu.

Pre-enrollment & Registration

Where do I go for pre-enrollment?

You can do your pre-enrollment via MyUni.

Where do I find the timetables for the units offered outside the program?

For the timetable of the units offered by staff outside coco, please log into MyUni or contact the timetable unit at the faculty office.

Dissertation and Special Projects

It is not possible for students to pre-enrol themselves in the Dissertation or Special Project units. This is because registration for both Special project and dissertation require you to find a supervisor before you can enrol. When the "Proposal to Enrol" has been completed and signed by the appropriate academics, the student will need to bring the form to the faculty Office for enrolment. (Please see the PDFs provided below.)
Proposal to Enrol (pdf) | Notes on Dissertation (pdf)
Notes on Special Project 1 & 2 (pdf)

How do I find a supervisor for my dissertation or special project?

Please email any of the CoCo academic staff members (those with a PhD) with your ideas for a dissertation. Even if you don't have any specific ideas yet, you can still contact a teacher/researcher with whom you would like to work and have a discussion with them about what you could do. Feel free to take a look at the staff homepages to find out more about their areas of interest and expertise.

What classes should I register for in 2010?

When planning what to take, I would suggest that you complete all the core units first. There are four core units that everyone enrolled in MLS&T must take (Master, Graduate Certificate, and Graduate diploma)

  • EDPC5021 Introduction to the Learning Sciences
  • EDPC5022 Educational Design Methodologies
  • EDPC5023 Innovative Practice & Emerging ICT
  • EDPC5024 Learning & Change, a Systems View

Once you've completed all the core units, your choice of additional units will depend on which stream you are enrolled in.

Classes for the Research Stream

For those in the Research Stream, you need to do a dissertation, which is equivalent to two units of study.

You can register in either:

EDPZ6720 Dissertation (12 credit points, meaning you will complete it in one semester)

OR, if you plan to complete your dissertation in two semesters, you register one of the two below in two semesters.

  • EDPZ6724 Dissertation Part 1 (6 credit points)
  • EDPZ6725 Dissertation Part 2 (6 credit points

To satisfy the requirement of eight units for your master's degree, you need to take two additional units. You can take any two of the units below:

  • EDPC5025 Learning Technology Research Frontiers
  • EDPC5012 Workshop on Evaluation of Ed Software
  • EDPK5003 Developing a Research Project

Classes for the Professional Stream

For those in the Professional Stream, instead of a dissertation, you will do a Special Project by registering for one or both of the units below:

  • EDPZ6730 Special Project 1
  • EDPZ6731 Special Project 2

Special project is individually supervised, and can be taken in any semester of the year. You can find the detailed descriptions of these two units in the faculty postgraduate student handbook, p. 88-89.

Now, you should have either five or six units (depending on the number of units you plan to take for Special Project). You can complete the remaining units by selecting from the list below:

  • EDPC5012 Evaluating ICT-based Learning Innovations
  • EDPC5003 Teaching, Learning and the Internet
  • EDPE5001 Learning, Knowing and Thinking
  • EDPE6013 Learning and Teaching Thinking Skills
  • EDPE6016 Adult Learning and Development
  • EDPZ5010 Individual Profession Learning Portfolio
  • EDPZ6010 Prof. Learning Leadership Portfolio

The Graduate Certificate requires completion of the 4 core units. The Graduate Diploma requires completion of the 4 core units in addition to 2 elective units. The complete Masters requires completion of the 4 core units plus 4 additional units.

Please note that you do not necessarily need to take the units in the order of their appearance above. For more detailed information, please refer to page 50-51 of the faculty postgraduate handbook.

If you still have questions, please feel free to contact the course convenor, Chun Hu.
