Analyzing and supporting cooperation management in online learning communities

Communities of practice and other forms of collaborative teams are becoming important as producers and disseminators of knowledge and social capital. Our research will help such knowledge producing entities to make optimal use of modern communication media, employing elements of 'smart' technologies.

Our research will focus on adaptive visualizations of user models to support group coordination processes. We utilize online learning scenarios � synchronous as well as asynchronous � to illuminate team processes. Research will focus on originalities and applications of communication media. Representational notions in relation to task demands and collaboration situations will be fed back to students during the learning process.

Results will yield new insights into more effective problem solving as well as adequate problem representations.
