Caringbah High School

Year 11 biology students worked collaboratively with Year 7 students to map and catalogue the plants & animals of the school grounds. The activities were co-curricula operating within and beyond the mainstream biology and junior science courses. The Year11 students worked in pairs to mentor their group of six-seven Year 7 students. The groups created an interactive on-line data base to showcase the flora and fauna of the local area.

Aspects of the project included:

  • Collaborative learning,
  • Innovative use of technology including wireless communication to external and internal resources to facilitate in-situ identification and recording of species, and
  • Access to scientific expertise (field biologists, entomologists, naturalists) both professional and local.
