Hurstville South Primary SchoolInspiration for this IT project came from students creating a garden bed in the grounds of the school. Teachers Megan Jobson and Wendy Atkinson and their Year 5/6 students wanted to learn more about the plants in their playground. Students used digital cameras and tablet pcs to create records of these plants. Students were then visited by Fran Bodkin, a member of the local Aboriginal community who told them a lot more information about their plants. All of this information as well as internet searches and books about plants was then used to design sets of clue cards to help other students in the school to identify plants growing in the playground. A group of IT students from the University of Sydney noticed that the Yr5/6 classes had difficulty downloading pics from the digital camera and using them in their record keeping on the tablet PC. They designed a special program to operate on any computer using a stylus pen. These IT students also designed a website where the Yr5/6 students could add their information about the plants in the playground. Unit of work
